Sautéed mushrooms give these burgers a meatier taste. The chewy bits of mushroom and addition of oats add a great texture and keep the burger moist. If you’ve ever thought of turkey burgers as a little dry, try this these!
Ingredients
- 4 ounces mushrooms, button or cremini
- 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
- 4 hamburger buns
Preparation
- Mince the mushrooms with a knife or by pulsing in a food processor. Place a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil, then scrape the mushrooms into the hot pan. Stir, scraping the bottom of the pan, until the mushrooms are sizzling and give up their liquid, about 5 minutes. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper and reduce heat to medium. Stir until the pan is dry, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl and let cool.
- Add the ground turkey, egg and oats to the mushroom mixture and stir with your hands to combine. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and gently shape into patties. Refrigerate until time to cook.
- To cook, pan-fry for about 6 to 7 minutes per side. When the burgers are done, serve on toasted buns.
Serving Suggestion
Serve these burgers with classic burger fixings or try Swiss cheese, mayo, Dijon mustard and grilled onions.
