Don’t pay coffee shop prices for matcha lattes. Use your own matcha and make it the way you like it, with the milk of your choice. Matcha is made from ground whole green tea leaves, so it doesn’t dissolve like instant tea or coffee ― just whisk it well to mix it up.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons matcha
- ½ cup milk, coconut milk or nondairy alternative
- Maple syrup, to taste
Preparation
- Bring ½ cup of water to a boil.
- In a heat-safe measuring cup or bowl, place a small wire strainer and put the matcha in the strainer. Use a spoon to press the powder through, removing any lumps. Pour the boiling water through the strainer, then use a small whisk or fork to vigorously whisk the matcha in the cup.
- Heat the milk until hot, then whisk until foamy. Pour over the matcha mixture and whisk. Whisk in a little maple syrup to taste.
- Divide between two cups and serve.
Serving Suggestion
For a savory pairing, serve with rice crackers. Or for something sweeter, pair with white chocolate or cookies.
Tips and Suggestions
If you have a chasen or bamboo whisk that is traditionally used for matcha, use it! An electric frother will also produce nice foam.
