Fare Share Food Co-op
Fare Share Food Cooperative is a community-owned natural foods store, open to everyone and rooted in cooperation and shared benefit since 1978. Located in the heart of Norway, Maine, we are a place to shop, meet and stay connected to local farmers, producers and community.
We prioritize organically grown products, favoring regenerative and humane practices whenever possible, with a focus on minimal ingredients, no unnecessary chemicals and carefully vetted items. Our store includes a strong bulk section with a wide selection of fresh herbs and spices. Our supplement offerings are thoughtfully curated to provide high-quality options without overwhelm, so you can shop with confidence. We continue to expand our selection of local, fair trade and independently produced goods, many sourced from Maine and New England.
Owned by over 1,200 members, the Co-op supports the local economy by working with nearby farms, producers and small businesses. We own our building, originally built in 1915 and renovated in 2000, which houses the Co-op along with nine other organizations, studios, nonprofits and small businesses, including the Center for an Ecology-Based Economy and the Western Foothills Land Trust.
A strong volunteer base supports staff in day-to-day operations and special projects, alongside our Board of Directors, committee members and engaged member-owners. Together, Fare Share continues to grow in relevance and value to the community.
Through our Co-op Food Fund, we help increase access to healthy food for neighbors in need, and our Discount Grocery program makes high-quality food more affordable, so good food is available and affordable to everyone in Norway and the surrounding communities.
